Andrey Gugnin, 28 year old pianist from Moscow Russia is the Gold Medalist of the 2014 Gina Bachauer International Artists Piano Competition. The audience at Abravanel Hall came to a standing ovation several times for Mr. Gugnin after his performance of the Rachmaninoff Concerto No. 3 in D minor, op. 30 with the Utah Symphony under the direction of Maestro Thomas Hong. As the Gold Medalist, Mr. Gugnin will return to Salt Lake City for a performance with the Utah Symphony during the 2016-17 Season. Andrey Gugnin will be presenting a recital at Weill/Carnegie Recital Hall as the Gold Medalist plus a recording contract with Steinway & Sons Record Label, solo concert engagement at the 2016 Shanghai International Piano Festival and Institute, solo concert engagement at the 2015 Eastman International Piano Festival.

The Silver Medal and $20,000 went to 22 year old Chi Ho Han from Korea. The audience loved his Rachmaninoff Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. The evening started with the Prokofiev Concerto No. 3 in C Major, op. 26 played by Ukrainian pianist, Artem Yasynskyy who won the Bronze Medal with an award of $10,000. Both pianists will also have future international concert engagements and a Bachauer CD recording of selected repertory.

Audience members had the opportunity to vote for their favorite finalist after the performances and this year’s Gina Bachauer Audience Favorite went to Andrey Gugnin which comes with a $1,000 award.
