2016-17 Paul Pollei Commemorative Concert Series
As we look back on the 2016-17 concert season we are justifiably proud of the musical offerings provided for the Salt Lake community and we wish to thank you for joining us. Some highlights of this year’s Paul Pollei Commemorative Concert series include:
- October 7 | Jason Hardink and the Fry Street Quartet brought us a composer approved version of Mozart’s beloved Piano Concerto in A Major (K. 414) accompanied by string quartet
- February 7 | Chi Ho Han the 2014 Silver Medalist, played a memorable rendition of the Guido Agosti piano version of Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite
- March 14 | Norman Krieger honored us with a world premiere of 6 Little Preludes (2016) by Michael Fine
- May 4 | Natalya Antonova treated us to an all Chopin program
Excitement grew as the season progressed; the Jeanne Wagner concert hall was close to being a sold-out house on the final night of the concert season!
All of the visiting artists gave extra service surrounding their solo concerts. The artists performed at our Music-In-Our-Schools program delighting elementary school audiences with up close and personal piano concerts in six different schools. Norman Krieger also gave master classes at the University of Utah and BYU and both Norman Krieger and Chi Ho Han performed on KBYU’s Highway 89.
Our 2014 Gold medal winner, Andrey Gugnin, was guest soloist with the Utah Symphony last October. He stayed for another week with his host family and performed a school concert at their grandchildren’s school, played a solo concert at Snow College and gave a masterclass at the University of Utah.
We feel fortunate to be continually making new friends and renewing old friendships through the wonderful world of piano. We look forward to seeing all of you at the 2017 Bachauer Piano Festival in June and as patrons of our 2017-18 concert series, which promises to be as delightful as this year!
