2005 Finalist's Biography

Lukas Geniusas, Russia/Lithuania

Lukas Geniusas was born in Moscow in 1990 and is a fourth generation member of a family of musicians. He began piano studies at age five. He is presently a student of Vera Gornostaeva.

He has won numerous prizes in competitions including First Prize in the "Step to Mastership" Competition in St. Petersburg in 2002. He has also won prizes in Moscow and at the Frederic Chopin Competition for Young Pianists in 2004. He has performed solo recitals and with orchestras in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vilnius, Warsaw, Stockholm, Berlin and Paris, among other cities. In 2004, he received the Mstislav Rostropovich Foundation Scholarship.
