About the Artist
Andrey Gugnin has been involved in music since the age of seven. He studied with Professor Vera Gornostaeva at the Moscow Conservatory, graduating in 2010.
In addition to winning the Gold Medal and the Audience Prize at the 2014 Gina Bachauer International Artists Piano Competition (2014), Andrey has won prizes at multiple competitions including the Valesia Musica International Piano Competition (Italy, 2014); the Beethoven International Piano Competition (Austria, 2013); Svetislav Stancic Piano Competition (Croatia, 2011); “Cittâ di Cantù” (Italy, 2009); International Piano Competition of the Republic of San Marino (piano duo section, 2008).
He has performed in significant halls in more than 20 countries including Russia, Austria, France, Germany, Thailand, Italy, the United States and Croatia. His performances have included both solo piano concerts and concerto performances with orchestras including the Svetlanov State Orchestra, the Moscow State Orchestra, the Macedonian Philharmonic, the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, and the Utah Symphony Orchestra.
He has participated in international festivals such as the Ohrid Summer Festival (Macedonia), Zagreb Summer Evenings, Zagreb Music Bienalle (Croatia), Art November, Musical Olympus (Russia), Societa Dei Concerti Di Brescia Dal 1868 (Italy, Aberdeen Youth Festival (Scotland), Bermuda Festival for Performing Arts (Bermuda) and is slated to perform at the Klavier Festival (Germany) on the Ruhr’s “Best of the Best” concert series June 2015. In February 2007, his recording of both Shostakovich concertos was released on the “Delos” label with Conductor, Constantine Orbelian, and the Moscow Chamber Orchestra. As a piano duo together with Vadym Kholodenko (Bachauer laureate and recent Van Cliburn Competition Gold Medalist), he has recorded a debut CD of piano four hand music by Debussy, Ravel and Rachmaninoff also on the “Delos” label.
