Vasyl Kotys was born in 1984 in Ukraine. Beginning at age seven, he studied at the Zolochiv Music School, in the class of Ludmyla Hryhorovych, then at S. Krushelnytska Music Special School in Lviv,Ukraine in the class of Prof.   Maria Krushelnytska. He is currently a student at Hochschule fur Musik und Theater working with Prof. Matthias Kirschnereit.

He has won 2nd Prize in the Mendelsohn Preis Competition for Cello and Piano, 2nd Prize at the Horowitz International Piano Competition, and 2nd Prize as well as the Scriabin Prize at the Scriabin International Piano Competition.

He has performed solo recitals in the major music centers of Ukraine, Germany, Holland, Poland, and Croatia.

He has participated in international festivals such as GezeitenKonzerte (Germany), Peter de Grote Festival (Holland), and Festspiele Mecklenburg Vorpommern  (Germany).

He has performed with numerous orchestras including the Lviv Symphony Orchestra, National Odessa Philharmonic, Symphonic Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, Norddeutschen Philharmonie, Polish Chamber Philharmonic Sopot, and Theater Vorpommern Philhamoniesches Orchester.

Many of his concerts have been recorded by radio stations such as the NDR Kultur, Deutschlandradio Kultur, RTBF Belgique, and SMTV (San Marino) among others.
