Last June, Bachauer bronze medalist Artem Yasynskyy performed Kaleidoscope from Josef Hofmann’s Charakterskizzen, Op. 40 during his semi-final round at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. You can now hear the complete piece plus other music of Hofmann on Artem’s new CD!
Yasynskyy released a recording of piano works by Josef Hofmann on the Naxos Grand Piano Label on May 5th. The release concert will be on 1st July in Hamburg. A review of the CD by David Denton of David’s Review Corner said Yasynskyy “can caress the most beautiful sounds from the keyboard, and knows exactly how much he can manipulate the pulse of each work to give it shape and attraction. Add a gorgeous recording by Polish Radio to complete a superb release.”
From the Naxos website,
Józef (Josef) Hofmann was one of the greatest Romantic virtuosi of his age, a towering technician and a poet of the keyboard. He also wrote extensively for the piano, crafting a richly contrasted set of Charakterskizzen, Op. 40, a Sonata in F major, Op. 21 that reveals the influence of Schumann, and a finely wrought Theme with Variations and Fugue, Op. 14. Artem Yasynskyy won the Hofmann Prize at the First German Piano Competition of Polish Music in Hamburg in 2013.
