Since winning the Gold Medal at the 1998 Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, Lori Sims has established herself as one of America's most respected pianists and teachers. A winner of the 1993 American Pianists Association, she has performed throughout North and South America, Europe, and Asia, appearing with the Israel Philharmonic, NDR Radiophilharmonie (Germany), and the Utah, Indianapolis, Rockford, and Kalamazoo symphony orchestras.
An acclaimed recitalist and chamber musician, Sims made her New York recital debut at Alice Tully Hall to critical praise from The New York Times and has since appeared at Merkin Hall, Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall, and the Gilmore International Piano Festival, where she has been featured seven times as recitalist, chamber musician, and master class instructor. Her recordings include three acclaimed albums on the Naxos label, as well as a celebrated recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations.
Sims is Professor of Piano at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Previously, she served on the faculty of Western Michigan University for 29 years, where she was named the John T. Bernhard Professor of Music and Distinguished Professor. She studied at the Peabody Conservatory, Yale School of Music, and the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover.
